Hanane BECHA DigitalTrade and UN/CEFACT

Dr. Hanane Becha is a senior international expert in digital trade facilitation, smart borders, and multimodal logistics, with a strong focus on smart containers and global data exchange standards. Her work advances semantic interoperability, event-driven track-and-trace, and the first global standards linking smart-container-generated data to supply chain actors and regulatory authorities. She initiated and led the first smart container standardisation work at UN/CEFACT, delivering high-value use cases in collaboration with major smart container solution providers. As Founder and Director of DigitalTrade, she advises international organisations, governments, and industry leaders on designing and deploying interoperable, data-driven, and regulation-ready supply chains. Her expertise spans the full lifecycle of digital transformation, from policy and standardisation to pilots and real-world implementation, helping stakeholders unlock the value of immerging technologies (e.g., IoT data) for risk-based border management, cargo visibility, and trusted trade. Dr. Becha serves as Vice Chair for Transport & Logistics at UN/CEFACT, where she plays a leading role in shaping global standards for digital transport documents, smart container integration, and cross-border data sharing. She has contributed extensively to international standardisation and policy initiatives with UN/CEFACT, ISO, IMO, UNCITRAL, and the European Commission, notably within the eFTI and eFTI4LIVE frameworks. Through DigitalTrade, she delivers end-to-end expertise, including strategic advisory services, capacity-building and training, standards implementation support, and hands-on guidance for IoT-enabled pilots and smart border deployments, ensuring that innovation translates into measurable operational and regulatory benefits.
