Gael Grooby World Customs Organization

Ms Gael Grooby serves as Director, Policy and Standards at the World Customs Organization (WCO). She directs the development, implementation and maintenance of international conventions, standards, and tools related to the work of Customs administrations. Her work includes providing counsel to the Deputy Secretary General and Secretary General on matters relating to the Directorate. Ms Grooby joined the WCO in 2017, after 27 years in Australia’s Customs administration; she has a long and varied background in Customs and brings an outlook grounded in practical Customs knowledge and a focus on real-world results. The Policy and Standards Directorate unites the development of international tools for Customs administrations under a single directorate for the first time in the WCO’s history. This recognises the interdependencies and cross-cutting aspects of work in the different customs fields. Ms Grooby is focused on ensuring work is informed by a holistic view of the customs and trade environment that Customs administrations work in and with.
