Alioune Ciss is the Chief Executive Officer of Webb Fontaine, a global leader in trade facilitation and customs modernisation. Since assuming this role in January 2021, he has been instrumental in advancing the company’s strategic vision, driving digital transformation, and streamlining international trade processes across Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, and Europe.
Born in New York to a Senegalese diplomat, Alioune has lived in several countries which has exposed him to many global cultures, enriching his openness and shaping his strategic leadership approach.
With a strong academic foundation in mathematics and computer science, he embarked on his professional career at the United Nations in 1991. Over a distinguished 24-year career, including 22 years with UNCTAD’s ASYCUDA programme, he played a pivotal role in modernising customs administrations, optimising logistics performance, and facilitating global trade.
In 2015, Alioune joined Webb Fontaine as Executive Director of Business Development, where he leveraged his expertise in digital transformation and economic development to drive the company’s expansion. As a strong advocate for digitalisation, he has championed technology-driven solutions that enhance revenue generation, reduce costs, and promote transparency. Under his leadership, Webb Fontaine has played a crucial role in supporting advancements in digital infrastructure initiatives across the globe. His ability to navigate complex trade landscapes and foster collaboration between governments and private sector stakeholders has cemented his reputation as a leading figure in trade modernisation.
